Fifty Shades of Grey, the first film in the novel-inspired series, was released in theaters on Feb. Is this a discarded scene from the first film? Why is Christian Grey putting on that mask? Is this part of a mega-franchise crossover with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice? We won’t know for certain until at least 2017, when Fifty Shades Darker is slated to premiere. But still, it’s strange for a film that just confirmed its writer and has yet to lock down a director to have any footage at all. This kind of trickle-out promotion worked like gangbusters for the first installment-this new trailer runs just about as long as Beyoncé’s Fifty Shades tease last year. (Universal had previously released an alluring photo of Christian Grey in that mask.) But hey, now we can watch him put it on! To the sound of Fifty Shades’ patented heavy-breathing soundtrack, no less.
